Homebase

A private household organiser

Homebase is a small, private application used by a single household to keep track of everyday life in one place: things that need doing, what is coming up, household routines, and the schedule the household already keeps in Google Calendar.

It is not a product for sale and it is not open to the public. There is no sign-up. Access is limited to the two people who run the household it was built for.

What it does

How it uses Google

With the household's permission, Homebase reads their Google Calendar so appointments can be shown next to their other commitments. The permissions in set up today are read-only: Homebase can see events and the list of calendars, and that access does not allow it to create, change or delete anything.

Homebase is also being built to create and edit calendar events: a person describes a commitment in plain language, Homebase prepares it on the appropriate calendar, and asks that person to approve it before anything is written. That needs a broader permission, which will be requested separately. Nothing reaches a calendar unapproved.

Google Calendar remains the record of appointments. Homebase does not keep a competing copy of it. At the date of writing no Google account is connected to Homebase. The privacy policy sets out what is configured, what is connected, and what is planned.

Who it is for

One household. Homebase is not offered to other users and does not accept registrations. There is no way for a member of the public to obtain an account.
